TOMATO-LAND

009

Since I live in Italy I eat tomatoes almost every day! Really!! Pasta al pomodoro, tomato sauce on the many pizza’s I eat, pomodorini freschi in a rice salad, stuffed tomatoes and I can go on and on…. Tonight I’ll show you the four most known tomatoes and give you some info about them.

1.  Pomodori Ramati – Vine Tomatoes:

Vine tomatoes are smooth, very fleshy and easy to peel. They have a delicate taste and you cn find them during the whole year! They are perfect to make a fresh tomato sauce for pasta

2. Pomodori Perini - Plum Tomatoes:

They are pear-shaped which make them other than the normal tomato. They are fleshy but the pulp inside is not aqueous. Besides this type of tomato has few seeds. Quality of these tomatoes is guaranteed only during summer time. They are perfect for the delicious bruschetta (which is eaten in summer).

3. Pomodorini ciliegini - Cherry Tomatoes:

These small ones really don’t like to be in the fridge, so keep them out! You can buy them all year and are perfect eaten both cooked and raw. I like them most in a pasta or rice salad.

4. Pomodori cuore di bue - Beef(steak) Tomatoes:

These big tomatoes with their form similar to a heart (cuore) are very fleshy with few seeds. They are especially eaten in summertime when their flavour is the best. They are perfect for salads (no rice or pasta salad however!!).

Do you like tomatoes as much as I do?

Beautiful Tomatoes, now what are you going to make with them?

:D Thanks Bobbi, I put some idea’s in the text below the photo’s but I use them almost in every dish….just really like tomatoes a lot!! Tonight I use cherry tomatoes for a simple salad (lettuche, mozzarella and tomatoes and think to add some pine nuts…love those as well!). Normally I don’t use cherry tomatoes for a salad but I need to finish them otherwise I can throw them away…

Your photos are lovely. I am in my glory right now as I’m eating vine ripe tomatoes from my garden everyday. I’m also making big batches of sauce for the freezer. Summer is almost over and I will miss great tasting tomatoes…the market tomatoes have no real taste.

You’re so lucky Karen that you have these tomatoes in your garden…wonderful!!! Enjoy these last summer moments :D

Yummy! Gorgeous photos. I never used to eat tomatoes except on sandwiches with lots of cheese and then I had insalata caprese in Italy 13 years ago and have loved them in salads ever since.

Thanks :) The insalata caprese is really simple and delicious! For me tomatoes are a must in every salad….don’t like the salad as much without it ;)

Yeah, have to agree, those pics are gorgeous. Never saw beef steak tomatoes or heard of them before tonight:)

That’s nice….that you learned something new :D They are really good by the way!! Thanks a lot!

Must keep an eye out here for them, just in case. I seem to always go for small and juicy tomatoes, just realised I do know beef tomatoes but they are very big and more circular here – probably why I didn’t recognise them. They tend to layer them off with mozzarella and other things. Amazing, might be nice halved and stuffed!

Yes stuffed tomatoes….I adore them, especially with shrimps or tuna :)

You’ll have to put up your recipe! Though you’ll have to do a vegan version so your followers like me can try it!

Ok I will write it down and see what I can do…sooner or later ;) Nice tip anyway, thanks!!!

I echo Laurie’s sentiments… you could almost taste them, great photos :)

Tomatoes in Italy are MUCH different than the Dutch wannabees! I loved tomatoes with olive oil, mozzarella and basil, pure and simple, while being in Tuscany.
Then I tried the same recipe in Holland… forget it, bleh :(
Your photos are great, so colorful and tasty!

I know….I agree with you! In the Netherlands they taste a lot like water. And yes, the “insalata caprese” is delicious! Dank je wel Marion!! :)
