We just got back from a wonderful holiday in the south of Italy; Calabria! We enjoyed the sun (it has been so hot the past 2 weeks), the stunning beaches, a lot of good food and the nice company of Luca’s family. All the necessary ingredients for a real good, relaxing holiday! These coming 2 weeks I’ll take you with me to Calabria and show you unknown, small towns, specialities and of course the amazing beaches in and around Praia A Mare (Luca’s town of birth).
My absolute number 1 is the beach of ARCO MAGNO located in San Nicola on the south of Praia A Mare. I will let the photo’s speak for themselves…
In this cave they made a bar to relax, take a drink or a refreshing gelato…
You have the possibility to rent sun lounges and a beach umbrella at the private beach or you can go to the public beach (just at the side) and bring your own. All the beaches I present to you have both options. We always went to the public part and brought our own beach umbrella’s. You will save a lot of money by doing so!
To get to this beach you can park your car at the payed parking on the south of Fiuzzi the beach of Praia A Mare. From there you take the stairs and walk a bit (5 minutes to the private beach and 10 minutes to the public one). The stairs are open frm 8am till 7.30pm. Parking will cost you €4 a day or €3 for half a day.
The only negative issue I can say about this beach is that around 10.30am a lot of people arrive at the beach via boats just to see this amazing piece of nature for a short moment. Indeed, after an hour they’re all gone and the quietness will return immediately. Exactly how we liked it…gorgeous beaches and few people!!
Find out where Praia A Mare / l’Arco Magno is located:
See my post Beautiful Beaches. It’s just south of the circle where you can see the island Dino.

Hi Christi, I didn’t have internet where I stayed so couldn’t blog sooner…on the other hand I got to relax completely
But I’m really happy to hear that my posts got missed…that’s an awsoime compliment
So thanks a lot!!!!
I am a lido guy to the core! I love the service and the wonderful food usually attached. The cave bar makes this one of the most awesome beaches in Italy. I have spent way too little time in Calabria and I must get back there and especially for this
Great post!
Hi there…thanks. I know the lido’s have their comfort
Unfortunately they cost as well and so we decided to save some money
But the great thing is that at least you have the choice…so everybody will be satisfied!! Thanks for you nice comment
I agree with you. If I lived in Italy and had a car with my own stuff I would not pay for the lido.
Love this, and I love Italy. I’m looking forward to numbers 2, 3, 4, and 5! Beautiful!
Just stay tuned and they will come by in the coming 2 weeks
. And thanks for commenting
Stunning!
Thanks!!
Just gorgeous beaches and water, wish I was there now. The cave bar is a fantastic idea, and I’m sure very refreshing.
