LUNCH CLOSE TO THE FALLS

009

If you are planning a trip to the Toce Falls I can definitely recommend the restaurant La Genzianella in Valdo for a fine and affordable lunch.

They have typical dishes that is eaten in the mountains. They also serve Tapulone which is a typical dish from Borgomanero!!! It’s chopped donkey meat served with polenta. I’m not in to donkey meat so I just chose arrosto di tacchino con patate al forno which is roast turkey with roast potatoes. Luca ate the Tapulone… And as almost every restaurant in the mountains of Piemonte they served home-made desserts…delicious! I chose the apple-cinnamon-pie made of kamut (type of flour). Luca got the chocolate-tiramisù so I got a bite of that as well. How I love desserts!

If you drive from Borgomanero you need to follow direction Domodossola. You continue after Domodossola on the Sempione road and take exit for Crodo. After that you continue following Formazza. If you drive straight forward you will see Valdo. Continue the road for Toce Falls and you will drive by the restaurant. You can’t miss it! Valdo is part of the small town Formazza at only 5 minutes drive from the Toce Falls.

Below some photo’s to give you an impression of the restaurant with its surroundings and their delicious dishes!

For a starter we got a plate of salumi and various types of cheese from Piemonte:

Typical dish from Borgomanero, much eaten in general in Piemonte:

My choice…roast turkey with roast potatoes:

And here some of the home-made desserts:

I’ve never heard of eating donkey before. Don’t believe you can buy donkey meat here in the states even. I love following your blog!

I know!! It’s pretty weird, but on the other hand people eat horses, cows, chicken, turkey, pigeons, rabbits and I could go on and on….I stick with cows, chicken, turkey once in a while and pigs and that’s it… I’m not a big meat-fan to be honest.
Thanks for following and liking my blog so much :D Really happy about that!!

I agree. We could be eating more insects too – lol! :) I’m with you I struggle with eating animals myself. I love all animals. It’s good nutritious food though. I just wish there was a better way. You ROCK!

I’ve never heard of people eating donkey meat!!! I’ve heard of horses and both are weird… I wouldn’t eat either :)

I haven’t heard it before either before living in Italy…here in Piemonte it is eaten…also horses. I refuse to eat it, so I can’t tell you if it’s nice or not. Italians in general have less problems eating all kinds of animals ;) .
